Amari Ocean Gin - Theoretical Design Project

Introduction:

This project was really awesome as it was based around selecting a South African Craft Gin and crafting a relationship between 3 different styles by using old vs new techniques. I had to beautifully craft three different labels for my gin brand using techniques which were namely traditional, digital and mixed media.

My Chosen Gin: A mari Ocean Gin

In Latin, a Mari means "from the sea." These lovely gins have a notably smooth finish and a beautifully balanced flavour since they are distilled with pure ocean water to accentuate the botanical flavours. Made in Cape Town, South Africa, with pride. Every venue in the globe that faces the sea is where we hope to place a bottle of A Mari.

Traditional Printing Process:

I wanted to incorporate elements from the ocean and water which is what the A mari brand is solely based around. I was aiming to include images of shells which I initially covered with paper and used a pencil to create a texture and then scanned it in. Secondly I took physical shells and painted them to be able to press them on paper and get an awesome pattern going after also scanning them in. These were the results...
This was my final Traditional Design:

The Dirty Work:
Digital Process:

For my digital label I wanted to use the spiral/line design from the original neck label into my design to keep that golden thread visible throughout my designs. I created different colour combinations to match that of the various flavours of gin in the original bottle branding namely the golden Indian Ocean gin and the Blue/White Atlantic ocean gin. I also created my own additional colour to add another flavour into the mix which was black/White.
Mixed Media process:

For my mixed media process I had to combine my traditional elements with my digital elements namely the line pattern and shell shape to create the label for the neck of the bottle.
